Job Specifics, Knowledge & Skills

Strong teaching experience in English National Curriculum
Experience of teaching GCSE and A Level Art
Experience of teaching A Level Arts would be an advantage
Recent and consistent involvement in extra-curriculum activities
Respect for all members of a school community, irrespective of position, gender, age and ethnic background

Key Responsibilities:

To ensure the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum, in accordance with the aims of the school and individual student’s needs;
To develop and implement teaching and learning strategies that ensures the students’ attainment and progression exceeds curriculum expectations;
Analyse of students’ attainment/ assessment data (both internal and external);
Prepare and present to the schools Senior Leadership Team the annual academic performance review at the commencement of the new academic year, highlighting issues/trends and the strategies/actions required to improve the attainment and progress results of the students in the subject area across all year groups;
Confer with other Subject Leaders and the relevant Head of Department to review student performance across subject areas to identify cohorts or individuals who have not progressed;
Monitor the progress being made by students at all levels within the subject area throughout the academic year;
To support students in consultation with the SENDCO regarding any evidence of underperformance and or learning need in the development of effective corrective measures/strategies.
Ensure that all termly student assessment data is collected and reviewed via the schools Information Management System (ERP) in accordance with the reporting deadlines as set by the schools Senior Leadership Team.
To be accountable for leading and managing the teaching staff in their faculty;
To ensure that their teachers meet high levels of teaching and learning standards based on the DSIB framework for Teaching and Learning;
To plan and procure effective resources to support the faculty’s development plan;
To provide professional development for subject teachers in liaison with the relevant Head of Department.
To develop an outstanding curriculum, incorporating opportunities for enhanced students’ creative and physical skills which complements the School Improvement Plan/School Self -Evaluation;
To develop and review schemes of work, marking policies, assessment and teaching and learning strategies in the faculty;
To oversee day-to-day management of the faculty, including effective deployment of staff and physical resources;
To work with colleagues to formulate the subject action plan which has coherence and relevance to the needs of pupils (addressing needs of SEND students and those Gifted and Talented), in accordance with the aims, objectives and strategic plans of the School;
To engage inter disciplinary meetings and evidence cross curricular links with other subjects by involving other departments in schemes of work and lesson plans;
To ensure a consistent and continuous school-wide focus on students’ achievement, in the subject area, using data and external benchmarks to monitor progress in every child’s learning;
To implement an effective assessment framework, monitoring for periodicity and quality of assessments;
To monitor, evaluate and review classroom practice and promote improvement strategies i.e. lesson observations;
To meet with teachers of the faculty on a regular basis, documenting minutes of meetings for follow up and progress;
Model the innovative use of technology.
