Job Summary:

Responsible for assessment and reassessment of patients in the High Dependency unit. Provides relevant specialized care to patients. Works within a team of professional and medical staff that includes Doctors, nurses, other healthcare providers. Rotates shifts to meet patient care requirements.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for the provision of patient centered nursing care and maintains current knowledge of critical care nursing practices and standards.
Plans, implements and evaluates nursing care given to patients and provides care in a quality framework to promote positive health outcomes.
Prepares patients for emergency theatre procedures as well as preoperative and post-operative care as per Doctors orders
Facilitates medical assistance and provides patient care in emergency situations.
Initiates intravenous therapy and follows IV protocols as per hospital guidelines
Performs the Appropriateness review of medications before preparing and administering medications as required
Prepares and administers medications as per Doctors orders, providing timely feedback of patient’s condition as required.
Assists Dr’s in insertion of invasive lines following sterile technique as per infection control guidelines
Assesses and documents vital signs at specified frequency according to patients condition and hospital policy
Responsible for coordinating with Doctors and other allied workers to provide comprehensive care to the patient
Must be competent in code blue and perform when needed.
Maintains and updates all relevant patient documentation / medical records as per hospital policy and procedure.
Performs nursing procedures with attention to accuracy, patient safety and comfort, including those requiring strict aseptic technique
Provides patient education to patient and family members and documents
Provides for the physical, psychological and social needs of the patient and families.
Assists and encourages patient with breast feeding when applicable
Assists with transfer of critical patients to other facilities and serves as transport nurse during ambulance transport
Knowledge and skills on collection of specimens, bloods for diagnostic testing and critical values
Knowledge on ordering blood products and monitoring patients when receiving blood products.
In depth knowledge of Obstetric emergencies, nursing management and care as per protocols.
Follows the reporting mechanisms / chain of command in the nursing services department ensuring all patient care issues are accurately and promptly reported.
Demonstrates an economical approach to the utilization of equipment and supplies while assisting the head nurse to maintain an appropriate ward stock.
Responsible for checking crash cart as per the checklist.
Responsible for maintaining inventory checklist of medications which include high alert medications and narcotics as per hospital policy.
Responsible for maintaining inventory checklist of Hazmat items through the use of Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) as per hospital policy.
Ensures preventative and ongoing maintenance of equipment is carried out, reporting all failures or deficiencies to the appropriate department head.
Demonstrates strict adherence to all hospital policies and procedures.
Demonstrates in-depth knowledge and participates in fire safety, patient safety, infection control and the other necessary precautionary measures as per hospital policy.

Qualifications:

Current license in country of origin and with HAAD or DHA license to practice in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Recent clinical experience in High Dependency Unit in a maternity unit.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate.
