This role is for an experienced pastry chef and cake artist that can lead and direct a small team to deliver the highest of standard cakes and cake designs as well as full event dessert tables. This person must have an entrepreneurial spirit and a "can-do" attitude, as the business is a startup with a solid franchisor. This role is for someone that will need to align the products we will make with franchisor standards and requirements. A successful candidate will have had 6+ years experience as a pastry chef and at least 4+ years in a leadership position managing juniors. Preferably, this person will have had experience in procurement, inventory management, baking for events such as weddings and corporate events, and in running a hotel kitchen (or any professional kitchen with high standards). This person will report directly the founder of the business and therefore must be able to get along with the founder.
Responsibilities - supported by an Assistant
- Head kitchen operations as the head chef and cake artist
- Direct junior pastry chefs to make cakes, sugar based product, royal icing designs, desserts such as macarons, cupcakes, biscuits etc.
- Lead juniors and business operations from sourcing ingredients, managing inventory, managing logistics to events, event setup and completion, support business management, lead baking and design
- Design cakes and deliver against design
- Develop good team dynamic and culture of collaboration, appreciation, boldness, and pursuit of excellence
- Ensure high standards of product and hygiene
Oversee and supervise juniors
Qualifications
- Excellent verbal communication

- Collaborative, humble, hard-working, satisfied by great quality work and a good environment and team
- Diploma in Pastry from top institution
8+ years work experience
- Qualified (certifications and trainings) in cake making, pastry, sugar-craft, cake design, fondant, buttercream, royal icing etc.
