Education/Qualifications:

● Graduate - Subject Qualification

● Teaching Qualification

● Possess relevant recent professional development that prepares the candidate for this role

● Full time qualified teaching experience minimum 2 years, 5+ years preferred

Job Purpose

The implementation of a superior curriculum and the provision of effective communication with all the School’s constituents, as well as ensuring the social well-being and academic growth of all children.

To directly support the Divisional Principal and SLT Team in facilitation of professional learning and growth, curriculum and program development through positive professional affiliation, effective example, communication, and support of members in the department, resulting in positive experience for students, families and colleagues.

Reports To: Head of Department, Divisional Principal and CEO/Principal

Works with: Faculty, staff, students, parents, colleagues, members of the School Support

Centre and the general School community

Core Responsibilities

Planning and Preparation for Learning

● Demonstrating knowledge of content and pedagogy

○ Teacher demonstrates good understanding of the content and its relationships and connections with other disciplines and the world. Teacher’s planned instructional practices reflect current inquiry-based pedagogical knowledge and IB philosophy.

● Demonstrating knowledge of students and families

○ Teacher demonstrates good knowledge of students’ backgrounds, skills and interests and uses this knowledge to plan differentiation for groups.

● Resources to promote learning and engagement

○ Teacher utilizes available school resources (eg. technology, manipulatives, etc.) to promote engagement and learning.

● Designing coherent instruction

○ Almost all planning supports the stated learning outcomes, builds upon prior knowledge and engages students in meaningful learning. The lesson and/or unit has a clearly defined purpose.

● Assessing student learning at a developmentally appropriate level

○ The teacher’s plan for student assessment (formal or informal) is aligned with learning outcomes, has clear success criteria and reflects an understanding of student prior knowledge.

Terms of Employment:

GWA Teacher shall receive a Limited 2 year term contract. The calendar and work days are approved by CEO/Principal in compliance with GEMS policies and KHDA.

Contract terms, salary and benefits shall be those negotiated between the CEO/Principal in cooperation with GEMS School Support Centre.

The normal contract day is 7:30AM to 4PM Monday - Thursday and 7AM - 12:15PM on Fridays with additional hours as the assignment might require.
